Overview
Lake Geneva Country Club (LGCC), a premier private club on the shores of Geneva Lake, is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Grounds to lead its Grounds Department. This individual will oversee the golf course, tennis facility, pier system, landscaping, and all associated grounds operations. The Director of Grounds will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the property through exceptional maintenance standards, long-term planning, and team leadership. The club has had a long-term commitment with only 7 superintendents in 130 years. About Us: Founded in 1895, Lake Geneva Country Club is the oldest golf club in Wisconsin and an iconic lakeside retreat. Located in Lake Geneva, WI, LGCC offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern amenities, with an active golf, racquet, and social calendar. With a strong commitment to maintaining the club’s beautiful natural setting and premier recreational offerings, LGCC is excited to welcome a new Director of Grounds to continue shaping its legacy. Club Highlights: 2025 Maintenance Budget: $1.2M Capital Budget: Varies based on needs Total Annual Rounds: 6,500 Total Staff: 4 full-time, 15 part-time seasonal; on-site housing available for interns and assistants Turf Types: Bentgrass greens, soil pushup, bent/poa fairways and tees Future Projects: Irrigation and bunker upgrades Equipment: Purchased Green committee: 8 total members, monthly meetings Course closed from November 1 until April Initial Priorities of the Position: Execute and maintain high-quality course and grounds standards Establish member communication and education programs Review and contribute to long-range planning initiatives Develop and mentor the team, including strategy for developing an internship program, and seasonal recruitment Establish a clear capital and equipment replacement strategy Success Traits of Individual Associate degree in Agronomics or related field (preferred; additional experience considered in lieu of degree) 4–7 years of relevant management experience (10 years preferred; golf course construction/maintenance from multiple turf operations is ideal) High attention to detail, strong leadership, agronomic expertise Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work across multiple constituents Balances tradition with pragmatic improvements Strong interpersonal and organizational skills High golf IQ Collaborative team player Strategic thinker with capacity to develop and execute long-range plans Hands-on leader with a passion for high standards of playability and aesthetics Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage complex budgets and capital projects Leverages technology and data to inform decision making Thrives in a multi-generational, family-oriented club environment Passionate about golf course maintenance and instills that pride within the team Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude: Oversee all operations and employees within the Grounds Department (superintendents, assistants, greenskeepers, horticulturalist, equipment technicians, etc.) Plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance, purchasing, and construction of all club grounds and facilities Oversees 18-holes of golf, all waterways, practice facilities and surrounding grounds Ensures Lake Geneva Country Club is updated on modern agronomy, golf course maintenance methods, safety and organizational policies and procedures Maintain standards of playability on the golf course as set by the Green Committee Chair Communicate and collaborates with multiple club committees, maintains a global perspective on the golf course with other club amenities and services Recruit, train, evaluate, and motivate all staff; enforce safety and club policies Supervise chemical applications, contracted services, and snow removal Develop and monitor budgets, purchasing, and capital planning Remain current with industry best practices and applicable laws/regulations Ensure confidentiality, professionalism, and positive representation of the club Clear understanding of high expectation facilities, and classic golf course architecture Fosters member education and engagement Seek and obtain professional advice from industry experts including golf course architects, fellow superintendents or agronomist, soil consultants, arborist and or any other specialist in a pertinent field Salary Range: Open and commensurate with experience Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance 401(k) with 4% Match HSA Contribution ($2,000 annually) Short- and Long-Term Disability Local & National Dues Paid Uniforms Application instructions: Candidates are invited to submit a resume and cover letter addressed to the Lake Geneva Country Club Search Committee, to the attention of Tyler Bloom, Search Consultant.
