Position Summary: The Program Instructor for the Upward Bound English Language Learners(UBELLs) requires an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of theCenter for Pre-College Programs. Employment and/or continued employment issubject to successfully passing State Mandated Criminal Background Check. The program operates year-round during the AcademicYear (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions Saturday Sessions are 20 Saturdaysduring the Academic Year from 8:30 am through 2:00 pm. Summer Session is six(6) weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm.
Essential Functions: -Providesinstruction in relevant grade level academic classes in English as aSecond Language (ESL/ELLs) to prepare students for success in high school and college. -AssistsELLs/ESL students to integrate reading and writing skills. -Developsstudents' communicative, study and time management skills and assists inthe development of test taking strategies. -AssistsELLs/ESL students to reduce fear of subjects and helps develop studentproblem solving and critical thinking abilities. -PromotesELLs/ESL students to develop language arts skills in preparation for the state-mandatedtests, i.e., PSAT, SAT/ACT. -Attends allstaff development and training sessions. -Submitslesson plans timely. -Assists in developingand implementing the Program Curriculum based on the New Jersey CoreCurriculum Content Standards for the program. -Creates alearning environment that will facilitate the desire to learn and helpELLs/ESL students to gain self-motivation for self-improvement. -Tests andevaluates the performance and progress of each student and prepares gradereports. -Assists inthe administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic andplacement tests. -SupervisesTeacher Assistant and/or Tutor in the execution of all EssentialFunctions. -Participatesin the planning and delivery of team-teaching and thematic lesson planswith other teachers in the same subject area and/or grade level.
Additional Functions: -Performs other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications: -TeacherCertification in the academic discipline and Bilingual Education. -2-4years of teaching experience in the subject area. -At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications: -Experiencewith ELLs/ESL minority and disadvantaged high school students ispreferred.
Salary Information: In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $30.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
