Irrigation Technician - Willis Case Golf Course

What We Offer The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The full-time pay range for this position is $23.33 - $27.50/hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).

Location In this position you can expect to work on site at Willis Case Golf Course, five (5) days a week, including weekends, as needed.
What You’ll Do Denver Golf has eight facilities with a range of offerings and a focus on course conditions and guest services. Willis Case Golf Course is located seven minutes north of downtown Denver along I-70, with panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains. Check out what Willis Case Golf Course has to offer!
Perform irrigation system maintenance
Monitor and troubleshoot irrigation system issues as they arise
Read irrigation drawings and perform construction and maintenance/repair and replacement of broken parts on various equipment including pipes, sprinklers, hoses, and more
Research, introduce, and execute sustainable irrigation practices at the course
Inspect facilities and equipment to identify construction, maintenance and repair needs including estimating materials, labor, time and cost of repairs
Participate in other course maintenance responsibilities including mowing, snow removal, supervision, customer communication, and coordination with the Golf Pro Shop
Operate and maintain various lightweight vehicles and equipment; utilize a computer for diagnosing system problems
At times direct, train, and supervise seasonal course staff and be the go-to full time staff for all course maintenance and communication
Occasionally work and fill in at other Golf Courses to support general department operations
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Our ideal candidate will be savvy at identifying and resolving equipment malfunctions, will be an adept problem solver, and is willing to learn new trades and skills to support operations. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working in all weather conditions, not afraid to jump in when needed, and will be comfortable interacting with a diverse team of coworkers, as well as with the public.
In addition, our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Experience working on golf course operations
Experience maintaining and repairing irrigation equipment
Experience working with Toro Links Operating System (or similar systems)
A professional demeanor and collaborative spirit
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience in maintaining and repairing commercial, agricultural, or related irrigation systems
Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
License/Certifications: This job requires driving; requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
