Posted Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 8:00 AM Job Summary The objective of this position is to manage, develop, and implement the goals and objectives of Sealaska Heritage Institute’s Education Department’s educational programs in conjunction with the Education Director. Duties/Responsibilities Coordinate with internal departments and staff, and external clients and contractors, to develop, design and produce educational programming, curriculum development, and Education Department’s grant goals and objectives. Support the Program Managers and Education Director and overall department with implementation and coordination of the department’s programs, activities, and budgets. Collaborate with the Education Director and development staff/contractors in developing grant proposals, as needed. Effectively oversee program and project implementation assigned by the director in collaboration with the COO. Assist in outreach with Native communities, organizations and schools and represent SHI in external education meetings when designated. Provide leadership to Program Managers, contractors, language specialists and teams to assure projects are completed in a timely manner and to SHI’s standards. Provide supervision between like-programs, summer camps, management of Education Department event scheduling and alignment between parallel work within Education Department programs. Provide direct supervision of Program Managers and their teams, supporting their work of implementing grant goals and objectives, including supporting PMs in submitting required grant reports. Program supervision may chance according to current grants and the overall goals of SHI. Oversee new and current staff training and professional development in collaboration with the operations officer and the human resources team. Assist with SHI’s biannual Celebration event. Attend SHI biweekly virtual director meetings. Other duties as assigned by the COO pertaining to the mission and goals of SHI. Approve of time off and leave requests, and timecards of assigned staff. In consultation with HR, address any personnel related matters that may arise, including the hiring of new staff of assigned staff positions. Required Skills Extensive knowledge of educational, social, cultural, and economic needs of Southeast Alaska native peoples. Knowledge and experience in culture/place-based curriculum development. Knowledge of educational program planning, implementation, and monitoring. Experience meeting required deadlines and project milestones. Grants management expertise, proposal writing and grant administration experience. Knowledge of program planning and implementation for K-12 students and special populations. Strong organizational and planning skills Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships. Coaching, supervising, and managing others. Teamwork oriented and Independent High level of discretion. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in computer applications for word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software Supervisory Responsibility This position will have no direct reports. This position’s duties are performed at the offices of Sealaska Heritage Institute. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. About this Role This is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, employees may work up to or over 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration. Required Education and Experience B.A. in Education, Science, or related fields. M.A. preferred. Seven years’ experience in education related fields such as classroom teaching and student program planning, curriculum development projects, educational federal or state work related experience, or management experience in related fields in the private sector Three to five years of formal supervisory experience, i.e., evaluations, recruitment, mentoring, professional development, and succession planning.
