Job Summary

The Department of Science and Mathematics at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Chemistry. This is a 10-month tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will have a background in Organic Chemistry and/or Biochemistry and the ability to teach introductory chemistry. Ideal candidates will contribute to curriculum development and teaching in chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. The successful applicant will be expected to teach introductory courses including General Chemistry and General Chemistry labs, Organic Chemistry and associated labs, and to develop advanced undergraduate specialty labs and courses in their area of expertise. A proclivity for mentoring students in undergraduate research and the ability to teach laboratory and lecture to undergraduates demonstrating a wide array of preparedness are preferred. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience interacting with first-generation college students and dual-enrolled high-school-aged college students. ABAC is a residential state college located in Tifton, Georgia. The college offers associate and baccalaureate degrees and has an approximate enrollment of 3800. The Department of Science and Mathematics houses a baccalaureate program in Biology with tracks in Pre-Professional, Health Sciences, Environmental Studies, Biological Sciences, and Biochemistry. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and be able to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and faculty. The successful candidate will be a strongly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a firm commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. A completed Ph.D. in organic chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related area is required. Candidates will be expected to develop a research program involving undergraduates in experimental projects leading to presentation and publication. Experience in laboratory instruction, preparation and maintenance is desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with prior safety or chemical hygiene training and certification. While the position is stationed at ABAC’s main campus in Tifton, GA, the successful candidate will be willing/able to travel to dual-enrollment sites and/or to ABAC’s Bainbridge, GA instructional site to offer classes thereat as needs arise. The position is open until filled. The intended start date for the incumbent is August 1, 2025. Experience or training in safety or chemical hygiene preferred. Willingness to travel to dual-enrollment sites or ABAC instructional sites as needed.
