The Head Start Teacher is a program-specific position responsible for planning and managing the education of young children, including child file management, ChildPlus data entry, My Teaching Strategies (MTS) data point entry and monitoring, paperwork processing and filing, and CACFP duties. This position provides assistance to the Head Start Anchorage office staff with duties and tasks pertinent to Head Start program services and provides support to the Sugtstun language learning. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Provide quality education and individualized services for enrolled children and families. Promote a safe and healthy learning environment by following Federal Performance Standards and Chugachmiut Policies and Procedures. Monitor child files according to program standards and enter child and family information into the ChildPlus computer database as assigned. Deliver services for the Education and Disabilities components of Head Start, including Head Start CLASS compliance; set and update education and school readiness goals using screening and assessment data in MTS, DIAL4, and ChildPlus. Collaborate with the Head Start Education and Disabilities Coordinator to align learning outcomes with the State of Alaska Early Learning Guidelines and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework; document learning outcomes and ensure MTS documentation is updated weekly and monthly. Produce reports aligned with the program year and share with parents during twice-yearly Parent-Teacher Conferences. Monitor CACFP requirements, including meal counts, family-style dining, meal components, menu compliance, and updating working menus as needed. Develop lesson plans using the Creative Curriculum, ensuring individual educational needs are met and appropriately documented; coordinate with Creative Curriculum tools such as Mighty Minutes and MTS. Submit bi-weekly updates on MTS documentation to the Education and Disabilities Coordinator and Director via email. Monitor screening and assessment timelines for compliance with standards; ensure screenings occur within 45 days for new entrants and arrange timely referrals for assessments, involving parents in the process. Attend and participate in IEP meetings (in person or telephonically); monitor IEPs and provide training to teacher aides to understand IEPs, ensuring Head Start components are met within established timelines. Work with teaching staff to ensure lesson plans include ILP/IEP data and monitor outcomes, updating plans as needed. Coordinate with the Anchorage office, LEA, community partners, and parents to ensure timely and appropriate services for children with disabilities and maintain required documentation and permissions. Assist in developing forms and instructions; provide administrative support to Head Start Anchorage staff; compile program reports as directed. Participate in Pre-Service and In-Service training as scheduled and carry out assigned duties with limited supervision. Adhere to safety policies, maintain professional conduct, and uphold core values of respect, integrity, trust, compassion, and quality. Conform to Chugachmiut policies, confidentiality requirements, and HIPAA regulations. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Qualifications

Federal Performance Standards require that Head Start teachers have a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education; if hired without this credential, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and enroll in a Child Development Associate (CDA) program as soon as possible, with progress toward credential each quarter and a professional development plan (PDP). 18 years of age or older.
