Overview
Adjunct Faculty, Chemistry — Lone Star College, Houston North Fallbrook. Part-Time, regular position aligned with the college’s mission and cultural beliefs. Classes are offered day, evening, and weekend at various times and locations during the academic year. Adjunct faculty are hired on a semester-by-semester basis and may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year depending on student demand.

Job Description The teaching faculty are responsible for providing learning activities and support that lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching chemistry courses in accordance with the curriculum and institutional guidelines.
Essential Job Functions
Teaches Chemistry courses at a variety of times and locations
Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
Uses a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
Meets with and advises students before/after class or by appointment, electronically or by other appropriate methods
Evaluates students to measure progress toward course objectives and communicates progress promptly
Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
Assumes other reasonable related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Mastery of course content
Demonstrated leadership skills; collaborative, team-oriented facilitation
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with a wide variety of people and appreciate alternative viewpoints
Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning and distance learning
Commitment to academic excellence and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning
Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology
Ability to engage students with effective teaching strategies
Qualifications
Master's degree in chemistry or biochemistry or chemical engineering, or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in chemistry
Work Schedule and Conditions
Work is conducted in a climate-controlled classroom and/or laboratory environment
Hours vary based on class time; instructors must be available to students outside of class as needed
Equipment includes standard office and discipline-specific tools; regular interaction with internal and external contacts
Compensation Salary: $55.44 per contact hour.
