Birch Agency is seeking experienced educational interpreters to work with students in Milwaukee, WI, for the 2025-26 school year. The Educational Interpreter provides interpreting and support services to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in mainstreamed classrooms. Job Responsibilities
Provide expressive and voice interpreting for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in mainstream classes, including American Sign Language, Manually Coded English, Pidgin Signed English, and Oral Interpreting. Assist classroom teachers by providing tutoring services to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students when appropriate, without interfering with interpreting duties. Help set up note-taking services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students as needed. Participate in educational team activities such as meetings, parent/teacher conferences, Multidisciplinary Team meetings, and informal staffing, providing input on communication strategies and student progress. Act as a liaison to foster good relationships between Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students, hearing peers, staff, and faculty. Lead or assist in providing sign language in-services to students, staff, and parents upon request. Interpret at school functions outside regular hours, including extracurricular activities and parent meetings, with additional compensation for after-hours services. Maintain professional standards as per the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Ethics. Minimum Qualifications
