The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computational Astrophysics. The Department of Physics and Astronomy has active programs in computational nuclear, neutrino, and gravitational wave astrophysics, complemented by research in experimental nuclear astrophysics. The department benefits from collaboration with researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Overview - Position Summary We seek candidates in diverse areas of computational astrophysics to complement and expand current research efforts.

Qualifications

PhD in physics or astronomy, or a closely related field, by the time of application.

Exemplary research record demonstrated through publications in peer‑reviewed journals, citation statistics, invited talks, and leadership roles.

Ability to establish an externally funded research program and to provide training for departmental graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

Commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and to innovation in curricula and teaching methods.

Responsibilities The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching mission of the Department, establish and lead a funded research program, supervise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, and actively participate in departmental service. The Department supports a broad range of computational and experimental programs in physics and astronomy and seeks a colleague who will collaborate across programs and with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
