Overview
Under the supervision of the Child Development Specialist, the Early Childhood Teacher provides a stimulating environment for the growth, well‑being and development of children ages zero through three. The teacher creates and implements lesson plans that prepare children for their next educational experience while meeting Early Head Start standards.
Primary Duties
Classroom Environment: Provides a safe, age‑appropriate, developmentally enriching educational environment. Selects appropriate materials, arranges the room, and maintains a positive routine with simple rules understood by children and adults.
Curriculum: Plans lessons and creates activities that are developmentally appropriate using Creative Curriculum and Early Learning Literacy Standards. Encourages questioning, problem‑solving and creative expression.
Assessment and Documentation: Assesses children’s levels of development and documents progress using Teaching Strategies GOLD. Observes daily, formally assesses each child, uses data to enhance development, and maintains record keeping.
Parent Involvement: Encourages parent participation, plans parent conferences and home visits, communicates curriculum and progress, and models strategies for parents.
Professional Development: Participates in all professional development initiatives, workshops and training programs related to child development and special needs.
Secondary Duties
Maintains confidentiality and supports diverse backgrounds.
Works independently and as a team member, collaborates with parents and volunteers, and upholds the vision and mission of St. Vincent de Paul.
Participates in continuing education and attends events as needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma with 90‑hour Child Care Certificate and Infant‑Toddler 45‑Hour Certificate, required.
1 year supervised classroom experience with children age zero through three years, required.
Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, preferred.
CDA, preferred.
Physical Requirements
Medium work: Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 25 pounds.
Environmental Conditions
Primarily Indoor Work.
