Hudson County Community College – Assistant Coach, Men’s Basketball
Position: Assistant Coach – Men’s Basketball Location: Jersey City, NJ Department: Intercollegiate Athletics/Student Affairs Reporting to: Director of Athletics Salary Grade: Hourly (up to 24 hours per week) Employment Type: Part‑time About the Role
The Assistant Coach will partner with the Head Coach to support all facets of the intercollegiate men’s basketball program. Key responsibilities include monitoring academic progress, recruiting and developing student‑athletes, preparing practice plans and game strategies, and fostering an academic‑first culture while protecting program integrity. Responsibilities
Promote a culture that prioritizes academic achievement and sustains program tradition. Assist the Head Coach with monitoring student‑athlete academic progress. Evaluate and recruit potential student‑athletes. Develop athletic, character, and academic skills for current student‑athletes. Assist in creating and implementing practice plans and game strategies. Assist in evaluating opponents and providing safe transportation and effective food service for student‑athletes during competition travel. Assist in managing program inventory and raising funds. Adhere to all applicable Garden State Athletic Conference, Region 19, NJCAA, Hudson County Community College, local, state, and federal laws, statutes, by‑laws, and regulations. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Associate’s Degree. Minimum two years of playing, coaching, or administering at a college or professional men’s basketball program. General knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, and leadership skills. Valid driver’s license. First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission. Comprehensive knowledge of basketball skill development theories and techniques. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and athletics industry technology for recruiting, retaining, and communicating with student‑athletes, coaches, and administrators. Leadership and Relationship Skills
