The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use. Department of Health Services Community Programs (Housing for Health for Homelessness) and Office of Diversion and Reentry are seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Staff Assistant I vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before your initial work period ends, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to

DEFINITION: Has responsibility for the housekeeping and record keeping functions and conducts administrative studies of internal operations and procedures as an assistant to the manager of a line operation in a County department. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: One year's experience in either: a staff capacity* analyzing and making recommendations to administration for the solution of problems of organization, procedure, program, budget, or personnel
-OR- a highly responsible secretarial capacity**
-OR- a responsible supervisory clerical capacity.***
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS INFORMATION: *In the County of Los Angeles, staff capacity is defined as: Work in an advisory capacity to line' managers to provide program and administrative support.
**In the County of Los Angeles, highly responsible secretarial capacity is defined as: functioning as secretary to either (1) the head of a major section in a large and complex County department, (2) the head of a minor section in Health Services, or (3) the head of a major unit in either (a) a department headed by an elected official of the County of Los Angeles, (b) a department headed by an appointed official who provides immediate advisory services to the Board of Supervisors, or (c) the Department of the Public Defender.
***In the County of Los Angeles, a responsible supervisory clerical capacity is defined as: supervising a large number of employees performing general and specialized office clerical work or a smaller number performing more diversified and difficult duties.
