Youth Recreation Specialist 1 (NY HELPS)
Base pay range: $53,764.00/yr - $68,630.00/yr
Duties Description As a Youth Recreation Specialist 1, you would be responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the youth recreation activities in an Office of Children and Family Services residential facility. Up to 20% of your time would be spent in dealing with physical education activities required by NYS Education Department regulations. If assigned to a smaller residential facility, you would serve as the head recreation professional. Under the guidance of facility management, you would also be responsible for the development and direction of the recreation program. Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.
OR Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). The minimum qualifications through the NY HELPS are: A Bachelor’s Degree and one year of experience working in a physical education or sports-oriented recreation program primarily for youth between the ages of 10 and 21; OR A bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, leisure studies, outdoor education, health and fitness, therapeutic recreation, recreation management, outdoor/environmental education and camping, leisure recreation program delivery, management leisure studies, outdoor recreation, or in a closely related physical education or recreation degree.
This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
Background Investigation Requirements
All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks.
All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).
For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
