Overview
Sudanese In-Person Interpreter (IPI) – Onsite Location: Everett, onsite servicing Snohomish County Job Type: Independent Contractor Position Overview: The Sudanese In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and provides opportunities to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.
Responsibilities
Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
Maintain professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
Show respect for and understanding of LEP clients, their culture, dialects, beliefs and preferences.
Maintain strong customer service orientation and a passion for interpreting.
Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
Render exact concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
Qualifications
Fluent in both source and target languages (Sudanese to English and vice versa) with strong verbal communication skills.
Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI or DSHS.
Accredited Medical Interpreting Training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
