Girls' Basketball Assistant Coach

Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the Girls’ Basketball Program, collaborating with the Dean of Athletics to create a positive, competitive, and inclusive environment for our student-athletes. This role focuses on developing training programs, mentoring athletes, and fostering team culture in alignment with Dawson’s Core Values at school and throughout the institution and broader community. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the sport, excellent communication skills, and a passion for student-athlete development. Key Responsibilities

Advocate for Dawson’s philosophies of balance in alignment with Challenge Success and our no-cut athletics policy. Assist the Head Coach in designing and implementing practice plans and game strategies. Help mentor student-athletes in their athletic, academic, and personal growth. Conduct individual and team training sessions to enhance skills, fitness, and overall performance. Promote a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Administrative Duties

Maintain accurate records of team performance, attendance, and equipment inventory. Support the organization and coordination of team logistics, including scheduling practices, games, and events. Assist in preparing reports for the Dean of Athletics as needed. Communicate with families weekly to provide updates on team progress, events, and athlete development. Community Engagement

Represent the program at school events and community functions to build support and visibility. Collaborate with parents and alums to strengthen community ties around the program. Advocate for sportsmanship and a positive representation of the School in the community. Qualifications

Previous coaching experience is preferred but not required. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to connect with and motivate student-athletes, fostering a love for the sport. Understanding of the developmental needs of young athletes and the ability to create an inclusive environment. Must pass annual background checks. CPR Certification is required (certification can be obtained after hiring if not currently held). Physical Requirements

Ability to engage in physical activities related to coaching the sport. Availability to work evenings and weekends for practices and competitions. Work Requirements

Willingness to travel for competitions and events as needed. Ability to work in various outdoor and indoor settings depending on the sport. Must be on time to all games and practices, demonstrating commitment and reliability. Must attend all mandatory coaches’ meetings as scheduled. Flexibility to adjust schedules based on team needs and events. Familiarity with using and maintaining sports equipment and facilities. Ability to implement safety protocols related to training and competition environments. Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the team.
