ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER at AMPI
AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation's American-type cheese, processed cheese and butter is produced. The cooperative's award-winning dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. In 2019, AMPI launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and the Co-op Crafted promise, highlighting more than 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled buttermakers and cheesemakers. Responsibilities Develop and monitor dairy plant programs including wastewater management, water supply management, waste reduction, and water conservation. Manage air permits applications (NPDES, land application permits, storm water permits) and hazardous waste generators licenses. Assist in completing environmental compliance forms (TRI Form R, SARA Tier 2). Establish contacts with regulatory personnel (MPCA, DNR, EPA) and other agencies. Oversee project management and cost justification for capital expenditures; coordinate AST/UST upgrades and spill prevention plans. Demonstrate a good working knowledge of environmental regulations (CWA, SDWA, CAA, EPCRA, CERCLA, SARA, RCRA, TSCA). Correspond with and negotiate with regulatory agencies; oversee contractors; communicate new and changing environmental regulations. Direct and administer AMPI’s Environmental Management System, Environmental Policy, and Environmental Audit Policy. Conduct, oversee, review, and communicate environmental audits of manufacturing facilities; review and update environmental policies and programs. Develop and monitor programs for reporting sustainability information; track and report sustainability data; provide feedback for improvement and achievement of sustainability goals. Provide environmental support for dairy processing in areas such as air handling, refrigeration, power utilization, boiler efficiencies, water and cow water utilization, IP and chemical management, dryer and evaporator improvements, and membrane media systems. Work with Operations Specialist to review and report sustainability data as required. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintain effective relationships with regulatory agencies. Qualifications / Education High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with emphasis in engineering, biological sciences, chemistry, industrial hygiene, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Maintain a valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
