Position Overview:
The Cambodian In-Person Interpreter facilitates onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community members and practitioners in various settings. This flexible contract position offers opportunities to expand your interpreting business with multiple sessions per day.
Job Functions:
Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions professionally.
Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness.
Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
Follow interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting contexts.
Show commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in diverse environments.
Respect and understand LEP clients, including their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
Demonstrate strong customer service and interpreting passion.
Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
Render accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
Qualifications:
Fluent in both source and target languages (Cambodian and English), with strong verbal communication skills.
Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy during interpretation.
Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
Knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
At least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
Degrees or certifications in interpreting.
National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, DSHS).
Completion of accredited medical interpreting courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour medical courses).
