Job Summary Campus Recreation is seeking experienced group fitness instructors to join our dynamic fitness team. Candidates must hold a current, nationally accredited group fitness certification and demonstrate a strong passion for motivating and supporting participants in achieving their health and wellness goals. Our group fitness program emphasizes professionalism, evidence-based practices, and an inclusive, high-energy environment. Responsibilities include leading safe and engaging group fitness classes, creating class formats for diverse fitness levels, and providing ongoing encouragement and instruction to participants.
Duties Include
Ability to lead inclusive, engaging, and safe group fitness classes for a diverse student population, including individuals of varying abilities and fitness levels.
Proficiency in modifying exercises and adapting programming in real-time to meet participants' needs while supporting a safe environment.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Clear and effective verbal communication skills to deliver instruction, motivation, and feedback in a group setting.
Commitment to maintaining a consistent teaching schedule and communicating in advance regarding absences or coverage needs.
Dependable and punctual.
Instructors are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start of each class to allow adequate time for preparation and setup.
Adhere to all university and Campus Recreation policies, procedures, and professional conduct standards.
Physical ability to demonstrate exercises, stand for extended periods, and safely lift and move equipment (minimum of 45 lbs overhead).
Dedication to ongoing professional development and maintenance of a current, nationally recognized group fitness certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM).
Enthusiasm for contributing to a positive, student-centered fitness culture focused on wellness, inclusion, and personal growth.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid nationally accredited group fitness certification and/or license in the format of instruction.
Current CPR/ AED/ First Aid certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
Temporary Disclosure As a temporary employee, you will not be eligible to participate in all employee benefit programs (e.g., paid leave, retirement, or tuition reimbursement). Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), a temporary employee who works on average 30 hours or more per week may be eligible to enroll in health care benefits. As a temporary employee, you are also eligible to enroll in supplemental plans (e.g. dental, vision,) which requires full payment on your part. Upon completing an assignment, employees may apply for a position on FIU Careers.
