Position Overview:

The Cambodian In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and the practitioners who serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day. Responsibilities

Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner. Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions. Adapt quickly to new and changing situations. Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context. Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment. Respect LEP clients, their culture, dialect and beliefs, and preferences. Display a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting. Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions. Render exact concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol. Qualifications

Fluent in both Cambodian and English with strong verbal communication skills (Cambodian to English and vice versa). Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation. Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification. Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, and NCIHC). Must be at least 18 years of age. Preferred Qualifications

Ability to read and write in the requested languages. Degree or certifications in interpreting practices. National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS. Accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
