The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University includes resources such as the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, Viral Vector Core, and advanced imaging facilities for cellular and molecular neuroscience research. Job Summary
Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models. Perform drug treatment and behavioral tests in mice. Develop hypotheses and testing methods. Collect mouse specimens for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis. Perform stereotactic surgery and a range of complex procedures. Culture primary cells, perform histology and imaging of mouse nervous system tissue. Manage transgenic mouse colonies and conduct small animal surgical and behavioral procedures. Identify and implement improvements to experimental and analytical pipelines. Prepare papers and assist with manuscript and grant preparation. Mentor junior lab members and promote a collaborative, high-performance lab culture. Design research protocols in collaboration with the principal investigator and manage data collection and verification.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease Investigate neuropsychiatric disorders and microbiome using transgenic mouse models Perform drug treatment and behavioral tests in mice Develop hypotheses and testing methods Collect mouse specimens (brain and peripheral organs) and prepare samples for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis Perform stereotactic surgery Execute complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational, and dissection procedures Primary cell culture, histology, and imaging of mouse nervous system tissue Manage transgenic mouse colonies and conduct small animal surgical and behavioral procedures Identify and implement improvements to experimental and analytical pipelines Prepare papers on research and contribute to manuscript and grant preparation with figures, methods, and technical expertise Mentor junior lab members and promote a collaborative lab culture Design research protocols with PI guidance and manage data collection/verification Required Qualifications
Option 1:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field with experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory work related to the research area. Option 2:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field with a minimum of three years’ research and/or clinical experience and supervisory experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to meet deadlines and work independently with general supervision Willingness and ability to work with research animals Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside normal hours may be required) Pay Band: B8 Salary is commensurate with qualifications within the established range Recruitment Period: Until Filled Benefits for full-time employees include health/dental/life insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and holidays; Tuition Assistance Program available after 6 months of employment Conditions of Employment
