Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering - Professor
Join the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) and the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama (UA) for a full professor position across the broad areas of architectural, civil, construction, and environmental engineering. Candidates will be considered for the Garry Neil Drummond Chair in Civil and Environmental Engineering or the Thad J. and Nona F. Gomillion Professorship in Civil Engineering.
Position Summary The CCEE invites application for a full professor position leading to appointment to an endowed chair. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, collegial leader with a strong track record of building multi‑disciplinary teams across the broad areas of architectural, civil, construction, and environmental engineering. Candidates with prestigious achievements and exceptional national and international reputations will also be considered for significant endowment support through appointment as an Endowed Shelby Distinguished Professor.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a highly productive research group with significant scholarly impact.
Collaborate with existing faculty within the CCEE department and the College of Engineering and potential colleagues across campus.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the faculty member’s area of expertise and support delivery of core degree programs.
Serve as a mentor and provide service to the department, college, and university.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned Ph.D. in Architectural, Civil, Construction or Environmental Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
Demonstrated record of prior research work and a record of impactful scholarly publications in refereed journals, conference proceedings, and similar venues.
Leadership of substantial research endeavors at the lab, center or institute levels along with mentorship of early career colleagues.
Demonstrated interest and/or record in engineering and/or education and professional service in area(s) of specialization.
National and/or international stature in the field.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Show the potential to construct and sustain a quality research program.
Excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Have 10+ years of experience as a tenure-track/tenured faculty member at a leading peer R1 institution.
Demonstrated a record of high-quality research and scholarly publications that is recognized nationally and/or internationally.
Significant record of scholarship in architectural, civil, construction, or environmental engineering, or a closely related department with both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Attainment, progress toward or demonstrated interest in professional licensure or other applicable professional certification (FE or PE).
Exceptional collegial, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
