$34.00/hr - $40.00/hr Environmental Scientist Location: Cayce, South Carolina Job Type: Contract to direct hire| Full-time Field Work: ~75% Field / ~25% Office Overtime: Up to 10 hours/week (as needed) Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist to support a wide range of environmental compliance and inspection activities for utility-based construction and operations projects. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements related to natural gas distribution systems, construction projects, and emergency response. This role is based in Cayce, SC, with approximately 75% field work and 25% office work. A fleet vehicle will be provided for business use during working hours. Key Responsibilities: Perform environmental and siting studies for high-voltage transmission lines, power generation, and water treatment projects. Support field-based environmental inspections and compliance for local natural gas distribution construction activities. Respond to emergency environmental spills and manage regulatory notifications. Oversee remediation efforts and conduct field sampling and screening. Handle hazardous waste management, including reporting, manifest signing, and coordination with waste teams. Conduct asbestos survey coordination and sampling. Complete environmental compliance auditing and maintain digital compliance tracking tools. Lead root cause analysis for environmental incidents. Prepare and submit various permitting applications (air, water, land use, etc.). Compile and analyze GIS data for environmental reporting and mapping. Conduct site investigations, erosion control assessments, and prepare NEPA documentation. Ensure all activities are compliant with safety policies and environmental regulations. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science field and 4+ years of relevant experience OR a Master's degree and 3+ years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance. 5+ years of experience in Environmental Construction Compliance / Environmental Inspection State-specific stormwater management / erosion & sediment control certification Strong technical writing and data analysis skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint) Experience with GPS and ArcGIS desktop software Working knowledge of environmental permitting processes, compliance audits, and site assessment methods Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities Valid Driver’s License required Must be comfortable working independently and in field environments Seniority level
