A Brief Overview The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for generating and securing new sales to increase company profitability. This role involves maintaining existing accounts and generating new business through cold calls and lead follow-up.
What You Will Do
Promote, sell, and secure new accounts for the company.
Provide existing accounts with necessary products, information, and support.
Assist in selecting products best suited to customer needs.
Prepare, coordinate, and communicate price quotations, sales terms, delivery dates, and service obligations.
Resolve customer complaints and problems.
Assist in collecting accounts receivable.
Coordinate project schedules, contractor schedules, and material deliveries.
Prepare and input orders as necessary.
Inform the company of competitive prices, products, and area-related information.
Maintain knowledge of sales performance relative to budgets and margins.
Research and order special products as needed.
Estimate materials from blueprints supplied by customers or contractors.
Adhere to Conflict of Interest or Non-Compete agreements if applicable.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance per company policy.
Required For All Jobs
Perform other duties as assigned.
Comply with all policies and standards.
Uphold the company's commitment to workplace safety.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
At least 3 years of sales experience in building materials or a related industry.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of building materials and ability to negotiate prices and contracts.
Ability to estimate from blueprints, and proficiency with calculators and computers.
Strategic mindset and ability to plan for future opportunities.
Ability to plan and prioritize work effectively.
Business insight and understanding of marketplace dynamics.
Collaborative skills to build partnerships and meet objectives.
Effective communication skills across multiple modes.
Ability to walk throughout yards, plants, and offices.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Driver's License required upon hire.
Travel Requirements
50% travel expected.
