Pathology sits at the cusp of basic and clinical sciences; includes 22 clinical faculty and 6 research faculty. Clinical services are delivered primarily to AU Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Georgia. The department also operates Georgia Esoteric Molecular Laboratory, a CLIA-certified reference laboratory. Job Summary
Perform advanced administrative and technical work in support of research initiatives in an assigned laboratory or clinical research unit. Participates in research data collection and documentation within FDA guidelines and institute protocols; develops and evaluates new research techniques and procedures. Performs a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytological, microscopic, histological, surgical, clinical and/or dissection procedures. Responsibilities
Project planning and development: participate in planning and development of research protocols to ensure adherence to scientific principles, human assurance compliance, and FDA requirements. Examinations for research purposes: participate in physical examination, testing and/or treatment of study patients for research purposes, read and record vital signs, obtain tissue and/or fluid samples, and document procedures and outcomes in study records. Advise principal investigators and research personnel on techniques, procedures, and technology. Administrative duties: order equipment and supplies; maintain equipment schedules and records; perform cleanup and related tasks. Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other personnel in research activities. Teach and participate in complex analyses including bacteriological, chemical, serological, histological, and cell culture procedures. Technical support: calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, operate complex scientific equipment; instruct others in equipment operation. Coordinate and participate in review of scientific literature; summarize findings and develop derivative applications. Analyze results using manual or computer methods; develop programs as needed for data analysis. Compose articles for publication and review articles prepared by others. Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein. Required Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field with experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory work, particularly clinical trial research; OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of three years’ research and/or clinical experience. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge:
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and other software/databases. Skills:
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills. Abilities:
Maintain confidentiality; coordinate multiple projects; meet deadlines despite interruptions; keep accurate records and make independent decisions. Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (with potential work outside normal hours). Pay Band: B8 Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Full-time benefits eligible; health, dental, life insurance; retirement plan options; vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays; Tuition Assistance Program eligibility after six months of employment.
