Nurse practitioners and physician assistants form the core of the provider team. They work together with the same expectations for clinical care, in a comprehensive and detention environment that requires broad clinical backgrounds. Core responsibilities include family practice, urgent and emergency care, behavioral health, infectious disease and public health management, case management, and gender-specific care, including transgender care and pregnancy management. All healthcare is governed by established policies and detention standards. APPs provide healthcare under collaborative practice and prescriptive authority agreements with physicians. Required Education and Experience
Physician Assistant - Graduate from an accredited PA program recognized by ARC-PA, with current clinical experience within the past five years. Nurse Practitioner - Graduate from an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, with current clinical experience within the past five years. Experience in primary care, detention, correctional, or residential healthcare settings is preferred. Required Licensure/Certification
Unrestricted, current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license in the duty station state. National certification as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Certification by NCCPA for PAs or by AANC/AANP for FNPs. Unrestricted DEA license for prescribing controlled substances. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Attributes and Professional Qualities
Ability to build positive relationships in a multicultural environment. Flexibility, organizational skills, confidentiality, integrity, and cultural competency. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in English, communication, electronic health records, Microsoft Office, HIPAA regulations, and Spanish (preferred). Major Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to collaborative practice agreements. Provide comprehensive healthcare, perform evaluations, and participate in treatment planning. Manage infections, provide health education, and participate in accreditation and training. Duty Hours / On-call Requirements
Operate 24/7; response required during emergencies, with rotational on-call duties, including weekends and holidays. Physical Demands
