School Age Services - Group Leader (Part-Time) - Millington & Arlington, TN
Base pay range: $11.00/hr - $15.00/hr
Overview This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the School Age Site Director, the part-time School Age Group Leader is responsible for implementing activities and executing daily lesson plans for the School Age Before and After School sites and Summer Programs. The Group Leader will work with other site staff to foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth, consistent with the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South mission and vision.
Essential Functions
Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
Set up and take down program space to create a child-friendly environment; move, clean, and organize furniture and equipment and leave the space in good order
Actively lead and engage a group of 15 to 20 children in activities as outlined by the Site Director
Follow all safety standards and risk management policies to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff
Assist in planning and implementing a quality curriculum that meets YMCA guidelines
Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as required
Assist in maintaining supplies and inventory on site
Assist in monitoring licensing standards at the School Age site to ensure quality standards
Maintain positive relationships with YMCA personnel, administration, and school staff
Assist in maintaining citywide policies and procedures
Take on duties as directed by the Site Director
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the YMCA mission
Ability to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to relate to diverse groups
Professional image with conflict resolution skills; sound judgment and initiative
Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Must complete state and school district background checks and fingerprint clearances
Minimum 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certifications Required Before a new hire is scheduled to work, they must complete 11 hours of training, including but not limited to items listed below:
New Hire Orientation training
DHS Background Disclosure Form & Fingerprint appointment
Abuse Registry Check
DHS Physical health form
Proof of education
Past Employment references
DHS TCCOTS “Before you Begin” and “Shaken Baby” training (TN program sites)
Pre-service training
Within 30 days of hire:
CPR/First Aid/AED (Infant/Pediatric)
Must maintain annual training requirements
Work Schedule Flexible work schedule required. Work schedules may vary per the needs of specific before and after sites. Before care is from 6:30 am until the start of school. After care is from the end of school until 6:30 pm. This part-time position is a split shift covering before and/or after school hours. Available work schedules: before school (only), after school (only), before and after school.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Climbing, sitting, reaching, crouching or crawling, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping
Exposure to electrical/mechanical equipment
Exposure to chemical elements
Exposure to extreme weather conditions
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Noise level usually minimal to moderate
Information Security & Sensitivity Conditions
This position requires elevated security permissions to systems storing sensitive information
Access to sensitive and confidential information
System activity may be subject to periodic audits
Protect confidential communications and information
Disciplinary action may result from non-compliance with security duties
