Head Start Teacher
to join our team.
Agency Profile Self Help, Inc. is a nonprofit Community Action Agency (CAA) created to help families and individuals stabilize and secure their lives through education, strategic assistance, and building opportunities in their communities. We provide a range of services for families and households across Southeastern Massachusetts.
Job Summary The Head Start Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment for preschool children in accordance with Head Start program performance standards. This position focuses on promoting school readiness by enhancing the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of children.
Responsibilities
Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets Head Start standards
Foster a classroom environment that supports children’s growth in all areas of development, including social-emotional, physical, cognitive language
Conduct ongoing assessments of each child’s development and maintain accurate records
Build positive respectful relations with children and their families
Implement strategies for classroom management and individual behavior support
Collaborate with teaching assistants, family service staff, and other professionals to meet the needs of children and their families
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom
Conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits as required
Participate in professional development and training opportunities
Other Requirements
Must pass a criminal background check and other required clearances
Must have or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
Must meet the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift and carry young children, bend, stoop, and actively engage with children
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required

Monday-Friday
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding of early childhood development
Effective communication and organizational skills
Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of Head Start program performance standards preferred
Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Frequent bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, and getting up from the floor
Outdoor activities in various weather conditions
Education & Experience
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education
Minimum 1-2 years working with preschool-age-children
Experience in a Head Start program preferred but not required
