The Basketball Varsity Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting and also leading various aspects of the sports program such as providing supervision of students during all aspects of the program, serving as a positive role model to the student-athletes, and represents KIPP Columbus in an excellent and equitable manner, upgrading his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations consultation, and performing all duties as specified by the Head Coach. Key responsibilities include the following: Coaching: Preparing and maintaining training equipment and facilities, assisting with the recruitment of students for the program, monitoring and evaluating team performance, maintaining records of students, training sessions, games, performance statistics, and equipment, facilitating and supervising training sessions and individual workouts, and fulfilling other duties as assigned by the head coach. Student Development: Working with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes, monitoring and enforcing student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation, instructing and advising students on regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices, and aligning with and maintaining KIPP’s learning environment standards for behavior and conduct during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property. Student Safety and Operations: Taking all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities, accompanying and supervising student-athletes during competitions on out-of-town trips, and encouraging sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation. General: Doing whatever it takes for our students and team to be successful, participating in staff meetings, professional development, as appropriate, and performing other duties as assigned by the Senior Athletics and Wellness Coordinator or Head Coach. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a strong set of leadership and character strengths, including integrity, follow through, listening, proactivity, and efficiency. Required qualifications include: Minimum of one year of coaching experience with middle and/or high school students. Possess a valid Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit. Complete all required Health and Safety training and certifications to be eligible to coach in Ohio. KIPP Columbus offers a paid stipend at the successful conclusion of the season.
