Job Summary Assesses patients, develops and initiates treatment plans based on the results of the evaluation. The evaluation may include measurements of neuromuscular and skeletal functions. Provides direct patient care. Documents findings, progress and instruction to patients and caregivers. May assist Level II & III physical therapists and leadership with program development. May provide training and guidance to students, interns and other staff. Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians.
Job Description Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's or graduate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university-based Physical Therapy program.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current or temporary license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission. Current certification in Basic Life Support.
Physical Therapist Direct Access:
Education:
Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, OR licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
Occasional/frequent pushing and lifting 75 – 100 pounds; carrying up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting.
Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing.
Visual ability to monitor instruments, computers, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics.
Principal Accountabilities
Performs comprehensive evaluation of patients, interprets findings, and develops a plan of care with goals to attain treatment objectives.
Implements physical therapy treatment programs, demonstrates competency in basic skills, and monitors patient progress, adjusting plans as needed. Provides instruction and motivation to patients and caregivers.
Communicates effectively with patients, caregivers, physicians, and insurance companies.
Presents professional topics at meetings, conferences, and educational settings as delegated or requested.
Manages time effectively and documents all activities accurately in medical records.
Ensures safety and adheres to policies, standards, and budgetary constraints.
Supports professional growth through continuing education and skills development, and contributes to departmental goals.
Creates compassionate, personalized experiences, demonstrating Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
