AI Databricks Automation Engineer
to join the Databricks Solution Team within the IRS Advanced Analytics Program (AAP). This role designs and implements automated test frameworks to validate data pipelines, model workflows, and platform services in Databricks while also bringing hands-on skills as a Databricks Engineer. The engineer will embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, covering functional, performance, and compliance scenarios, while directly contributing to Databricks-based AI/ML engineering tasks such as pipeline optimization, MLflow integration, and workspace orchestration. By combining automation and engineering expertise, this role strengthens reliability and accelerates adoption of AI/ML capabilities across IRS mission teams. Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors. Key Responsibilities
Design and implement
automated test frameworks
for Databricks-based data pipelines, jobs, and ML workflows. Integrate test automation into
CI/CD pipelines
(Bitbucket, Bamboo, Jenkins, or equivalent) for continuous validation. Build test suites covering
functional, regression, and performance testing
of AI/ML models and platform services. Act as a
Databricks Engineer
by contributing to pipeline development, feature engineering, and MLFlow-based model tracking. Develop
mock datasets, validation scripts, and reproducible experiments
to test edge cases, data quality, and compliance alignment. Partner with SRE/MLOps engineers to validate model deployment workflows (staging, promotion, rollback, retraining). Collaborate with architects and Databricks engineers to ensure solutions adhere to
governance, security, and enterprise standards . Produce
dashboards and reports
summarizing test coverage, outcomes, and platform reliability metrics. Contribute to reusable
automation templates and Databricks engineering accelerators
for new mission teams. Qualifications
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or related technical field. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust requiring U.S. Citizenship. 5+ years of experience in
test automation engineering
for AI/ML or data platforms. Hands-on experience as a
Databricks Engineer
(clusters, jobs, repos, notebooks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog). Strong proficiency in
automation frameworks and scripting
(PyTest, Robot Framework, Selenium, or equivalent). Working knowledge of
MLflow, model lifecycle operations, and MLOps patterns . Familiarity with
CI/CD pipeline integration
and Terraform-based automation. Desired Skills Certifications:
Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate/Professional, or Machine Learning Professional . Experience testing and engineering
end-to-end AI/ML workflows
in Databricks, SageMaker, or Bedrock. Familiarity with
federal compliance frameworks
(FedRAMP, NIST 800-53) and embedding compliance checks into pipelines. Exposure to
load/performance testing
for distributed data systems. Strong collaboration skills with architects, DevSecOps engineers, and mission data scientists. Additional Information
