Position Summary:
This position is required to support Itinerant Behavioral Health, Prevention and Support services through coordination, communication and local input with local and regional agencies to promote healthy lifestyles. Responsible for providing assessment, evaluation, education, counseling, treatment planning, referral, and behavioral health services for individuals who require services due to behavioral health and substance use related issues.
This position requires compliance with Health Center’s compliance standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the position’s regular performance evaluation.
Essential Functions
Provide individual, family, and group counseling to assigned clients/family members.
Develop, maintain, and record individualized client treatment plans, progress notes, transition/discharge summaries, and demographic information.
Coordinate, support, and assist mental health, substance abuse and health professionals to advocate for client’s needs.
Provide continued care to community members who return to their communities from other agencies (substance abuse treatment programs, family services, mental health programs, jail, etc.) with assistance from appropriate staff.
Provides supportive generalist behavioral health services to community members.
Relate, communicate and work regularly with community partners to develop and implement a community wellness plan.
Provide case management/file documentation for individual caseload, noting all treatment related activities and services in an accurate, professional, and timely manner.
Conduct as needed accurate assessment documentation including HIV/AIDS risk assessment, State of Alaska TBI Inventory and Client Data Form, accurate and completed ROI.
Organize and support community programs that promote healthy activities.
Participate in weekly conference calls, in-service, and staff training.
Deliver social services that are aligned with Alaska Native cultural values and modern counseling techniques.
Support community Wellness by role modeling.
Abide by the NAADAC ethical standards as adopted by the Alaska Commission for Chemical Dependency Professionals Certification, BHS Staff Code of Conduct.
Able to do interventions with clients and families.
Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, YCHC, and Alaska Native culture(s).
Knowledge of BHA Code of Ethics and ethical considerations of helping professions.
Knowledge about local cultural identities and history and their impact.
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Tribal law, regulations, rules, policies and processes. Including substantial knowledge of relevant specialized fields such as 42 CFR and HIPAA requirements.
Knowledge of customer services concepts and practices.
Knowledge of multi-line telephone systems operation.
Knowledge of filing procedures.
Knowledge of safety factors.
Knowledge of policies and procedures for the care of clients.
Knowledge of communication skills, both oral and written to interact with clients and families.
Knowledge in foundational methods to educate clients as part of primary prevention or to fortify treatment strategies.
Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
Skill in operating office equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in strategies for improving health.
Skill in responding and adapting to different cultural context and circumstances.
Skill in maintaining and updating office and client schedules and appointments.
Skill in gathering client’s contact information and initial screening.
Skill in maintaining personal and professional boundaries.
Skill in obtaining client consent and applying rules of consent to minors, guardianship and vulnerable populations.
Skill in analyzing safety issues and preparing recommendations based on findings.
Skill in providing case management and referrals to services.
Skill in providing and maintaining accurate documentation in the client health record and appropriate use of different documentation format.
Skill in setting up and utilizing Video Teleconference (VTC) and teleconference equipment for tele-behavioral-health appointments with clients and clinicians.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
Skill in identifying crisis and reporting to licensed behavioral health clinician or behavioral health profession regarding crisis events.
Work Environment/Physical Demands The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, including exposure to contagious diseases. Employees may be required to use protective clothing, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. The employee must be able to read, write, speak and hear.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibility or authority.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
One year of experience in the behavioral health or related field, preferred.
Experience in working with the Native American population preferred.
Possession or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska with a clean driving record.
Must successfully pass a criminal and background check.
