Overview

To effectively provide metallurgical and technical support to all aspects of forged roll manufacturing. This will be a salary exempt position with competitive wages. Duties/Responsibilities

Providing daily metallurgical and technical support to all company departments actively involved in roll manufacturing. Performing routine metallographic preparation and optical microscopy on forged steel rolls & ingots. Performing routine hands on non-destructive testing such as ultrasonic inspection, hardness testing, and retained austenite analysis. Conduct root cause failure analysis investigations on customer claim rolls and internal failures. Prepare detailed technical reports on completed failure analysis investigations. Provide as needed technical support to customer facilities (travel required). Conducting corrective & preventive action investigations. Assisting and contributing to product development and R&D. Responsible for identifying and executing projects for process improvements. Actively contributing and implementing continuous process improvements. Provide daily interaction and involvement with shop floor activities and projects. Performing daily review and approval of internal processing deviations. Performing daily review and approval of internal ultrasonic testing results. Performing daily review and approval of internal hardness testing results. Prepare weld work order instructions for internal and customer requested repairs. Performing frequent process audits to assure adherence to standard procedure and analyze process optimization. Interplant travel to perform process improvements, corrective actions, internal audits. Assist in the preparation for and participate in surveillance/recertification ISO 9001 audits. Required Skills/Abilities

Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Strong mathematical skills Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 60 – 80 pounds Manufacturing environment with heat, noise, dust, and vibration Education/Experience

Bachelors Degree Program in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science required. Knowledge of metallographic sample preparation, etching and the use of a light optical microscope required. Knowledge of basic laboratory safety practices required.
