Posted - United States - OH, Akron - Engineering - Employee - US CANADA (USCAN) The purpose of this position is to develop and support all technical activities related to compounding process engineering of Engineered Polymer Compounds and PP Compounds for LyondellBasell’s North American Advanced Polymer Solutions business. The Engineered Plastics Product and Applications Development (PAD) Process Engineer will be responsible for the process development of new and existing products, production scale-up into manufacturing operations, formulation transfers between manufacturing locations, and process improvements to increase product quality and/or production rate. Qualifications

Education : Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Material Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry. Experience : Entry-level based on education. Preferred 5+ years working with polymers or polymer compound development, including knowledge of polymer processing equipment, methods, auxiliary equipment, and tooling. Experience in Engineered Plastics such as Styrenics (ABS, ASA), Nylon, Polyesters, Polycarbonate, PBT, Polymer Alloys, TPE/TPV materials, PP Compounds. Knowledge of additives like fillers, impact modifiers, stabilizers, etc., is preferred. Knowledge of properties, characteristics, and processing behavior of polymeric materials and formulations. Responsible for comprehensive process support from formulation to manufacturing.

Key skills include : Ability to relate fundamental polymer concepts to resolve manufacturing and application issues, and competence in engineering principles like energy calculations, heat balance, residence time, and process extrapolation. Main Job Responsibilities

Coordinate process development activities and establish protocols for product/process trials in the Innovation Center and manufacturing plants. Translate technology for scale-up and product launch, including safety, equipment setup, recipe review, screw geometry, experiments, and process parameters. Support trial documentation, process data management, and safety guidelines adherence. Provide processing training and support maintenance of processing equipment. Troubleshoot process and quality issues, and drive continuous improvement for products and processes. Participate in project management, including raw material qualification and complaint resolution. Support quality management systems and IP assessments related to process development. Guide equipment specifications, supplier selection, installation, and commissioning at various sites.
