Position Overview A reputable engineering firm is seeking an experienced
Department Head – Electrical
to lead and oversee electrical design projects. This role will collaborate closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful design and implementation of electrical systems across a range of building and infrastructure projects.
The ideal candidate is a
licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
with a strong background in electrical system design, project leadership, and mentorship. This position is ideal for someone passionate about guiding teams, maintaining quality standards, and supporting the growth of both staff and the firm.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management
Mentor and guide electrical design staff to strengthen technical and professional development.
Work with leadership to assign resources, manage workloads, and oversee project execution.
Review and approve all electrical project deliverables to ensure quality and consistency.
Conduct performance reviews and support employee training initiatives.
Represent the electrical department in client meetings and project interviews.
Technical Expertise
Lead the design of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, telecommunications, and fire alarm systems.
Perform lighting calculations, circuit layouts, and electrical equipment coordination.
Ensure all designs meet relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
Oversee system evaluations and feasibility studies to enhance design performance and cost efficiency.
Project Oversight
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams throughout all project phases—from concept through construction.
Track budgets, schedules, and deliverables to achieve project and financial objectives.
Develop proposals, scopes, and fee structures in partnership with firm leadership.
Serve as the primary contact for clients and stakeholders regarding electrical design.
Business Development
Contribute to business growth by identifying new service opportunities and strengthening client relationships.
Support marketing and proposal efforts to expand the firm’s reach and reputation.
Qualifications
Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
from an accredited institution.
10–15 years of progressive experience in electrical design, project engineering, or project management.
Proficiency in electrical design software
such as Visual, ElumTools, and Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit
is preferred.
Deep understanding of electrical codes, industry standards, and best practices.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
Skills and Certifications Required
Professional Engineering (PE) license
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Proficiency in electrical design software
