Full-Time (Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 AM–6:00 PM) or Part-Time (Tuesday–Saturday, 10:30 AM–4:30 PM) We’re seeking a detail-oriented Cytology Specialist to join our client's diagnostic lab team focused on the evaluation of thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) samples. In this hands-on role, you will play a key part in preparing, staining, and processing cellular samples, ensuring accuracy and quality in every step. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in cytopathology, an eye for precision, and a commitment to maintaining lab excellence in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and NYS regulations. Compensation:
$32 to $36 per hour Responsibilities
Prepare and stain cytological smears; generate cell blocks from FNA samples. Evaluate slide quality and address any technical or staining issues. Contribute to process development and implementation of new methodologies. Support inventory management, workflow prioritization, and lab scheduling. Provide mentorship and guidance to cytoprep and support staff. Participate in ongoing quality control, compliance reviews, and process improvement. Collaborate with leadership to review, assess, and enhance lab protocols. Support cross-functional tasks including specimen intake and accessioning. Participate in validations, inspections, and safety initiatives. Assist in training and competency assessments of non-testing personnel. Engage in team-oriented research, operational improvements, and special projects. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline (biology, chemistry, or related field); a background in cytotechnology is strongly preferred. Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT, ASCP). At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a cytology lab. Solid understanding of clinical laboratory operations and compliance standards. Familiarity with cytology preparation methods, including liquid-based techniques. Comfortable navigating lab information systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office tools. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication. Ability to work independently while being a strong team contributor. Flexibility to adapt schedule as needed to support lab priorities. Work Environment & Physical Demands
Extended periods of standing or sitting. Use of microscopes and fine motor skills for specimen handling. Required use of PPE (gloves, coat, protective eyewear). Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
