Locum Consultant ENT

Applications are welcomed for a consultant post in Otolaryngology in a trust with a wide case mix in a spectacular part of the UK. The successful applicant will join a team of dedicated ENT surgeons working in harmony to provide excellent patient care. Areas of special interests will be welcomed, particularly head & neck & rhinology.
On call duties will be 1 in 5 on call. There is the expectation of attendance at the monthly ENT meetings incorporating governance, morbidity and mortality and education.
This is a replacement post, as the result of the planned retirement of one of our senior surgeons.
Main duties of the job The successful candidate will join a team of 6, mainly based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle but with some sessions at the trust's other units in Whitehaven, Workington or Penrith. On call duties will be at Cumberland Infirmary.
We are a highly motivated and cohesive team dedicated to providing an excellent service for our patients. We have a well-developed TNO service and have recently started transnasal laryngeal biopsies in OPD. The programme of support for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and experience.
We have a strong emphasis on training and have received a national awards in recognition of this. We have a strong commitment to support, mentorship and development of all of our staff and have regular multidisciplinary meetings.
Due to our location we have a number of services not normally found in hospitals of our size. We have an excellent unit that, despite being in a beautifully rural part of the UK, still regularly does major head & neck cases, including free flap surgery.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
Full Registration with the General Medical Council
Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent
Proof of competency in emergency and elective index cases
Advanced Training in specialist aspects of Otorhinolaryngology
Entry on the GMC specialist register via relevant CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), relevant CESR or European Community Rightsnagement & Administrative
Experience and Knowledge
High level of clinical experience and competence in Otolaryngology
Completed Higher Specialist Training (CCT) in Otolaryngology or evidence of equivalent competency.
A special interest to complement that of the existing post holders
A commitment to, and experience of teaching
Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
An interest in developing links with Primary Care
Experience of working in a District General hospital
Advanced fellowship (or equivalent) in subspeciality
Management and Administrative
Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the Otolaryngology service.
Ability to organise and manage own workload efficiently
Experience of audit management
Teaching
Experience of, and commitment to, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
Understanding of training pathway in Otolaryngology including use of ISCP
Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
Teaching of non-medical health professionals. Educational Qualification
