Responsibilities
The
Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA, OTA)
in Home Health is responsible for providing occupational therapy to patients in their homes to restore them to their fullest physical ability. The Occupational Therapy Assistant performs duties in accordance with policies, procedures, and the established plan of care. Follow all state-specific laws governing the provision of occupational therapy in home care, and adhere strictly to the treatment plan defined by the supervising OT. Follow the plan of care, instruct, and assist patients in evidence-based treatment within the scope of practice for occupational therapy assistants, according to state laws. Observe, record, and report to the supervising OT, nurse supervisor, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and any changes in their condition. Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as appropriate. Instruct patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members in therapy areas within the occupational therapy assistant's scope of practice. Education and Experience
