Overview
Airworthiness Certification Engineer - Avionics and Mission Systems Bell is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Military Aircraft Avionics Airworthiness Engineer to join Bell's Advanced Vertical Lift Systems team and support the FLRAA program. The role involves establishing and managing compliance with joint Bell-USG aircraft airworthiness requirements on military programs, with responsibilities spanning the lifecycle of the product. This position reports onsite at Bell's Headquarters. We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) as part of the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. Bell is also developing the Bell 525 Relentless, Bell’s Autonomous Pod Transport (APT), and the High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program. What you’ll be doing as Airworthiness Certification Engineer – Avionics and Mission Systems Integration
Performs technical airworthiness planning and verification support including development and negotiation of airworthiness certification plans, bases of certification, means of compliance, and other certification activities for complex total systems with IPTs and customer counterparts Reviews and coordinates with other airworthiness engineers and internal engineering disciplines across the total system (design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal) Performs functional and process analyses, requirements allocation and definition studies to translate customer requirements into criteria and derived requirements; ensures the logical realization of airworthiness objectives into system solutions throughout the product lifecycle (e.g., Airworthiness Releases, Type certification, continued airworthiness, operations, and airspace integration) Collaborates with IPTs and USG authority representatives to tailor Airworthiness Qualification Specifications, with a primary focus on Avionics Manages and maintains airworthiness evidence/artifacts in support of Airworthiness Releases (AWRs) and Air System Continued & Continuing Airworthiness Works closely with the Airworthiness Manager, Chief Engineer and Airworthiness Associate Tech Fellow to manage customer airworthiness demands and achieve milestone events A strong background in Avionics is highly desired Qualifications
Skills You Bring To this Role: Military airworthiness qualification/certification and/or flight/component test experience is preferred. Civil certification experience is acceptable. Experience developing Airworthiness Certification Plans and Airworthiness Certification Bases such as Airworthiness Qualification Specifications (AQSs), Tailored Airworthiness Certification Criteria (TACC) or Modified Airworthiness Certification Criteria (MACC) Experience working with a military airworthiness authority (e.g., US Army SRD, NAVAIR, AFLCMC EN-EZ) Military aircraft development or modification experience on ACAT programs is desired Familiarity with DoD Airworthiness guidance documents such as MIL-HDBK-516C or AMACC is a plus Design or Systems Engineering experience in Avionics, Air Vehicle Systems, Mission Payload Integration, or Flight Technology Experience with domestic and international UAS/RPAs airworthiness authorizations is a plus Experience producing or evaluating evidence for airworthiness certification/qualification Familiarity with MBSE and/or PLM is preferred Excellent communicator with ability to build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and leaders What you need to be successful
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Aeronautical Science (other math/science degrees with relevant experience considered) 5 years of experience in an aerospace avionics discipline required (electrical experience considered) Minimum of 2 years in military airworthiness qualification or civil certification programs is a plus Ability to gain and maintain a US Govt Secret Security Clearance Inquisitive and driven engineers with a passion to innovate What we offer you in return
