As a Senior Outsource Supervisor for Character Art, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the expanding Overwatch universe by collaborating with our concept, character modeling, and game design teams. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the creation and direction of character art that is both visually stunning and consistent with the signature handcrafted styles that define Blizzard’s games.
This is a full-time position that blends hands-on art direction with some direct content creation. We are seeking an artist with a keen eye for detail, capable of providing precise and constructive visual feedback, as well as implementing directions to guide external character artists toward high-quality results. As a part of our close-knit, collaborative team of artists, engineers, and designers, your goal will be to help deliver a truly epic and immersive character experience for players.
Remote eligible
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.
Responsibilities
Manage communications and provide feedback to character artists, fostering and maintaining a strong creative partnership between external and internal character art teams.
Ensure all outsourced character assets meet Blizzard’s quality standards and remain consistent with the Overwatch art style.
Review, critique, and guide external character art deliverables, ensuring iterative improvements throughout the production process.
Minimum Requirements Experience
8+ years of experience in game development as an artist specializing in character concept art and/or character modeling.
4+ years of outsourcing management or equivalent experience in game development.
4+ years of professional experience in Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter and Zbrush.
Knowledge & Skills
Exceptional understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette as they relate to character art.
Strong grasp of the Overwatch character style and ability to maintain visual consistency across outsourced assets.
Extra Points
Clear and concise communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Experience managing outsourced character art pipelines in a team-based game development environment.
Proficiency in asset implementation, basic skinning, and troubleshooting technical issues.
