Job Summary
The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT Scanners and related equipment with proficiency, including scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.
Major Responsibilities Examine requests and verify orders; refer and question orders to the Radiologist before performing exams. Contact ordering provider for discrepancies.
Identify patient using two identifiers; assist patients and explain procedures. Prepare patients and document on appropriate worksheets.
Interview patients for medical history. Review EMR for pertinent history and record on requisitions. Correlate test results with the exam performed.
Own the exam from start to finish, including dictated results.
Prepare and administer IV contrast per protocol; record contrast type and amount as requested.
Evaluate image quality and consult Radiologist as needed. Recognize abnormal anatomy and perform requested reconstructions or measurements.
Perform basic patient care; inform nursing staff of condition changes; assist in life support and code procedures during emergencies.
Perform CT scanning and assist Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures; follow sterile technique and infection control policies.
Obtain medications or contrast as directed by a licensed practitioner.
Follow radiation safety standards for self, staff, patients, and visitors.
Report equipment malfunctions and maintain knowledge to work safely in an environment with exposure risk.
Adhere to fire and safety procedures; attend safety trainings. Rotate shifts, including call back, holidays and weekends; adhere to attendance policy.
Operate radiology computer systems, enter orders and document contrast administration in MAR.
Maintain a neat, stocked work area and promote cleanliness. Support other medical personnel during exams or procedures.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education, Certification / License, Work Experience Graduate of an ARRT-recognized Radiologic Technology program. ARRT certification in Radiology, NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, and ARRT advanced registry in CT within one year of hire; current CPR certification.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Requires moderate to heavy physical effort lifting and moving patients/equipment. Occasional standing, walking and sitting. May require bending, twisting, kneeling. Exposure to various conditions including moving equipment and hard surfaces. Must follow radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure.
