40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: Performs a variety of complex tests which require the use of independent judgment in the planning, modification, and performance of clinical and research laboratory procedures. Perform duties related to Protocol Support activity. Pay Range $30.15 - $45.25

Responsibilities

Performs and provides accurate laboratory test results on human patients. Prepares and issues blood components for patient transfusions. Assists in the collection and transport of patient samples from the clinics to laboratory sections. Handles hazardous materials in accordance with regulations to ensure safe working environment. Requisitions and maintains inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as needed for laboratory operations. Supervises, trains, and reviews the work of students and lower-level technicians engaged in clinical laboratory work. Operates complex specialized laboratory instruments; instructs other personnel in the use and operations of these instruments. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Medical Technologist program, five years' clinical lab experience, or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification. Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred. Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP certification required. Skills/Qualifications: Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other ancillary professional staff when discussing procedures. Work Environment: Frequent exposure to infections, contagious diseases, and the risk of bloodborne diseases. Exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, wastes, odorous chemicals and specimens. Subject to electrical, radiant energy and radiation hazards. Exposure to a variety of electro-mechanical/power equipment. Exposure to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals. Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment. Subject to long irregular hours.
