Overview X-Ray Technologist III- TGH Imaging Bruce B Downs - (250003KM). Under the direction of a Radiologist, Facility Manager or Supervisor performs radiographic procedures (general & DEXA, fluoroscopy) according to protocols for various age groups of patients. This position may float between facilities and can involve training for additional modalities such as CT, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine or MRI. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required.

Responsibilities

Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure to be performed and records all reasons for the exam, including signs and symptoms.

Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.

Positions patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of the specified area requested by the physician.

Moves x-ray and DEXA equipment into position and adjusts exposure factors such as time and distance.

Processes radiologic digital images and examines them for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability.

Verifies that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS. Makes changes in billing codes/exam titles as needed.

Present prior studies along with current studies to radiologist for diagnostic assessment.

Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.

Stock and/or order supplies, check machines for problems, perform equipment quality control as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Current and valid Florida State License (CRT).

Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (CPR).

Graduate of a 2-year radiologic technology program from an accredited school.

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry.

Knowledge and skill in performing X-ray, DEXA, and fluoroscopy procedures and protocols. Eligible to train or currently training in additional modalities such as CT, MRI, Mammography or Nuclear Medicine.

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing, including body mechanics and patient movement.

Knowledge of radiology equipment and safety hazards common to radiology.

Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety, privacy and HIPAA regulations.

Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients and visitors.

Skill in using computer systems to process patient and department information.

Skill in performing quality exams, positioning patients and demonstrating compassion.

Ability to complete job functions in a timely manner.

Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians and other staff.

Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and management.
