Responsibilities The Endoscopy Technician I provides family centered healthcare utilizing a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to deliver state of the art care to all patients; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; practices family centered care according to policies; demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards; assists with orientation of new employees as assigned; available in hospital within thirty minutes of call; requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety and when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions; supports the nursing process through data collection, provision of patient care, implementation of nursing interventions for patients and family as directed by the RN; provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies; identifies and monitors medications administered from the sterile field; responds appropriately to emergency patient situations; performs skilled procedures and can state the purpose, rationale, precautions, and observations related to that procedure; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System and Endomaager system; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages, notifies the Charge Nurse when leaving the unit; maintains accurate and complete records by completing unit education card, completing in-service attendance sheet, completing the Sterilizer strips, Minimal effective Concentration or Paracetic Acid, QA log, and updates Endoscopist/Surgeon Preference Cards; demonstrates the ability the provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: neonate, infant-toddler/preschool, school age/adolescent, reproductive age, post/peri menopausal; utilizes the principles of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks occur; uses technically advanced equipment; participates in evaluation of new products; maintains appropriate supplies for procedural needs; provides appropriate care to specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures; performs scrub duties; establishes and maintains sterile field, or aseptic field; inspects sterile items for contamination before opening; adheres to electrosurgical safety policy and procedures; verifies that all equipment disposable and fixed parts are accounted for during procedures; decontaminates instruments according to unit protocols; assists physician who performs advanced endoscopy including: ERCP long and shortwire, EUS, RFA, VLE, Small Bowel Single Balloon, Small Bowel Spirus, Dilations by CRE, Savory, Hurricane, Stents including esophageal, colonic, biliary, and pancreatic; spy glass with ESL, Bronchoscopy, Navigational Bronchoscopy and Endobronchial Ultrasound; Lesion excision including polyectomy, mucosal resection, submucosal resection, Cutery including Argon, ERBE knife, and waterjet; Advanced procedures such as POEM, GPOEM, TIF, Endoflip, and Endostitch; has the knowledge needed to assist with these types of cases or the ability to engage in active learning, including attending conferences, and training that may be deemed mandatory; other duties as assigned/required, including reassignment to other units; participates on committees as assigned; participates in performance improvement activities through unit specific assignments; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.

Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in procedural area, or completion of an approved scrub tech program.
