The IU Health laboratories provide some of the most comprehensive services in Indiana, operating 24/7 and performing over 19 million tests annually. In addition to serving IU Health, we provide laboratory testing services to hospitals and physicians nationwide. The Medical Laboratory Technician at the LAB assists with laboratory testing on patient specimens. Under supervision, may provide information for diagnosis and treatment. Maintains performance records and uses independent judgment to generate accurate test results. Performs all tasks according to standard operating procedures, assists with developing and modifying procedures, and assumes additional responsibilities as directed by management or the laboratory director. Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related science (certification not required); an Associate Degree from an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program or a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) certification from an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration, depending on coursework completion date. Associate degree holders must obtain certification (NCA, AMT, ASCP, HEW, or CLA) within 12 months of employment. Failure to do so may result in a downgrade to Lab Assistant II or termination, depending on business needs. Requires knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures. Requires familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and routine maintenance. Requires ability to maintain quality control and performance records. Requires proficiency with computers. Requires knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
