Provides assistance to invasive cardiologist in the performance of diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional cardiac angiographic procedures in the safest and most efficient manner possible with the maintenance of optimal patient care.
Responsibilities
Provides pre-procedural education of patients scheduled for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiac procedures. Ensures proper preparation of patient and equipment necessary to perform the designated procedure or procedures. Provides a clean and efficient environment for patients, staff and physicians by maintaining the equipment, inventory, and physical plant. Plans and/or implements care for assigned patients. Provides essential anatomic information via the collection, interpretation, documentation, and recording of physiologic information in cardiac cath lab. Understands the fundamentals of the electrocardiogram as used in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Understands the fundamentals of the procedures performed in the EP lab. Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of a cardiac catheterization and the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Demonstrates proficiency in the operation and maintenance of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used including electrical safety for each piece of equipment. Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of peripheral catheterization. Demonstrates patient and laboratory personal safety. Provides essential coronary anatomic information by optimal angiographic data collection. Performs accurate documentation of events during cardiac catheterization necessary to meet medical legal standards and to assure quality, protecting the patient, physician and staff. Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. Maintains educational guidelines based on department credentialing matrix and maintains skills and knowledge base to assure competency. Completes non-therapeutic functions under the direction of MD, PA, APRN, or RN. Qualifications
EDUCATION: Spec. Procedure Tech. BCLS required. EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years experience. PHYSICAL DEMAND: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are also required to stand and walk. They must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. They are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.
