Use Your Power for Purpose The Comparative Medicine Operations Specialist is primarily responsible for providing basic husbandry, handling, restraint, and health surveillance of laboratory animals in accordance with local regulatory requirements. This role also includes maintaining inventory of animal supplies and delivering basic technical support for research studies, such as restraint, injections, and blood collections.

What You Will Achieve

Perform routine animal husbandry duties as directed

Observe and report status of animal health, food and water consumption, appearance, and behavior

Provide support in basic veterinary medical treatment as prescribed by veterinary staff

Support cage wash equipment operations and maintenance

Support research by providing basic technical services (restraint, dose administration) to researchers

Required to work with all species housed at the site

Train and mentor new hires in animal husbandry and facility support duties fulfilling department training requirements

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

Education: High school diploma or GED

Work Experience: Minimum 4 years

Basic animal husbandry and handling

Experience working with animals

Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work while standing for extended periods

Ability to perform repetitive physical activities: pushing and pulling racks of caging, lifting bags of feed and bedding, reaching, stooping, bending

Health Requirement

For positions located at sites with nonhuman primates, employees are expected to enter nonhuman primate areas as part of their job responsibilities

PRE-HIRE Requirement

Providing proof of measles immunity or receiving the measles vaccination prior to hire

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Overtime required one day every other week

Weekend & Holiday work mandatory

Start Time 6:00 a.m.

Salary $29.25 to $48.75 per hour. Overtime, weekend, and holiday premiums apply.
