Responsibilities
Job Summary Provides patient services under supervision of a physician within the Trauma Center and Emergency Department. Responsibilities include eliciting detailed patient histories, performing physical examinations, administering treatments, prescribing certain medications, and counseling patients on health issues. Procedures performed are in accordance with Medical Staff credentialing. Essential Functions Conducts daily rounds on all assigned patients, including trauma care areas and Emergency Department, addressing issues, evaluating lab/radiology data, and collaborating with trauma/surgical staff. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, writes orders, and completes medical documentation promptly. Assists surgeons in managing trauma patients and provides consultations as requested. Manages patient care plans in coordination with surgeons, making necessary adjustments. Performs procedures as credentialed, maintaining accurate records for quality and billing. Participates in handoff processes at shift changes, daily rounds, and discharge planning. Educates patients and families regarding injuries, care plans, and post-discharge needs. Supports clinical staff education and maintains credentialing requirements. Develops and monitors adherence to clinical practice guidelines, participates in performance improvement activities, and gathers data on complications and quality indicators. Communicates effectively with patients, consultants, and primary care providers. Participates in research activities as applicable. Education Graduation from an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant program is required. Experience Minimum of 1 year experience as a Physician Assistant is required. Experience with surgical and trauma patient populations is preferred, with credentialing to practice as a PA with demonstrated competence in relevant skills and procedures. Licenses and Certifications Arizona Physician Assistant Licensure and National Certification are required. AZ State Licensure as Physician Assistant is also required.
