Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for laboratory personnel (NCA) or American Medical Technologist (AMT). Personnel receiving certification as a MLT after January 1, 2004 must recertify every three years. To obtain recertification from ASCP, NCA, or AMT, 36 points of approved continuing education over a period of three years must be documented and submitted to the certifying agency. Medical Technologist Requirements Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution (NAACLS Certified) or Bachelor's degree with a major in biological or chemical sciences and completion of approved laboratory experience requirements for Medical Technologist certification as designated by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist, (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for laboratory personnel (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT). Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for laboratory personnel (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT). Personnel receiving certification as an MT after January 1, 2004 must recertify every three years. To obtain recertification from ASCP, NCA, or AMT, 36 points of approved continuing education over a period of three years must be documented and submitted to the certifying agency.
