Overview
Under the direction of the Radiology Director and a radiologist, performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Operates CT/X-Ray equipment to produce quality images/radiographs of designated body parts. Available for emergency on-call procedures as required. Recognizes the need for control and assessment of patient pain, helping to prevent or reduce pain levels when possible. Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces high-quality radiographs across all patient age groups. Explains procedures to patients. Positions and immobilizes patients for procedures. Selects appropriate technical factors for specific body parts. Reviews images for quality and accuracy of positioning. Assists in Radiology or other departments within Imaging as needed. Assists Radiologist with invasive procedures. Prepares the room properly for specific procedures. Practices principles of sterile technique. Labels items on trays according to Joint Commission standards. Selects appropriate procedure trays and instruments. Obtains images as requested by Radiologist to facilitate diagnosis. Maintains patient and personal safety. Provides radiation protection to patients. Practices personal radiation safety to minimize occupational exposure. Follows proper body mechanics when lifting. Uses appropriate transfer techniques based on patient condition. Verifies patient identity using two approved identifiers. Administers contrast media as directed by Radiologist. Administers IV contrast as instructed. Assesses patients for contrast media sensitivity prior to venipuncture. Attends annual training on venipuncture techniques. Performs venipuncture as required. PACS Operations Completes exams timely in PACS. Properly creates patient CDs. Verifies that physician orders match PACS entries. Ensures all images are in PACS, scans required documents, and adds notes as needed. Operates film digitizer to add films to PACS. Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Education/Licensure: Completion of AMA-approved Radiologic Technologist training; eligible for ARRT registration. CT registry preferred. Experience: No experience required, but preferred. Additional Skills/Abilities: BLS certification required before the end of orientation. Excellent communication skills required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and adapting to changing tasks.
