Description:
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists the physician performing a surgical procedure by establishing and maintaining a sterile field in the O.R., setting up equipment, scrubbing in, handing instruments and supplies to surgeon. Assists the surgical team by preparing patient for transport out of O.R. and cleaning O.R.
Qualifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Sound knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
Active unencumbered Surgical Technologist Oregon state license
Graduate from a fully accredited Surgical Technologist program
Two years of work experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care hospital setting
One year of EMR experience
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.
Participates in relevant continuing education programs.
Knowledge of and dedication to the highest patient care and provide the utmost service excellence to all patients.
Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision-making and problem-solving expertise.
A can-do, team oriented attitude is essential, as the ability to work independently and to interact easily with physicians, other managers and staff throughout the department and hospital.
Effective interpersonal/communication, organizational, and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks.
Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
Functions appropriately in a crisis/emergency situation

Responsibilities: Functions as a scrub tech before, during, and after surgical procedures, performing duties that include, but are not limited to:
Establishing and maintaining a sterile field
Procedure-specific preparation and instrument/equipment set-up; ensuring all equipment and supplies are available/at hand
Handing off instruments/supplies to surgeon
Management of medications on the sterile field
Operation of laser and Management of chest and wound drainage
Management of anatomical and body fluid specimens
Care of staples/sutures
Surgical instrument and supply counts
Applying dressings
Assisting with preparations for transport of patient out of O.R.
Assisting the team with cleaning and set up of O.R. in preparation for next case
Must be able to take call nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis; must be within 20 minute travel time to hospital
